INFJ
Worship will be the primary focus of the INFJ congregation. Although sensitive to traditional forms of worship, the INFJ will hear the inner call to express those realities with creative forms of worship and visual enhancements. Symbols are central. Worship should also be marked with periods of silence and reflection. Depth of concentration is an important quality.
The INFJ congregation is characterized by warmth and sympathy because it is naturally empathetic. Its concern for other people leads it to appear to be more extroverted then it really is. With a posture that focuses primarily on the possibilities, the INFJ extraverts its feelings, its valuing of others. Its strong adherence to and expression of its values may not always be tactful and may cause dissension because it gives an air of seeing its values as the only ones worth considering. It may expect a high commitment from new members.
Harmony is important within the congregational family because it wants the organizational side of church life to run smoothly, but is not necessarily over-endowed with organizational skills or interests. Conflict is not acceptable and can be destructive. This congregation looks toward tomorrow where there may be no conflict. With its eye on tomorrow, it may not see some of the basic tasks of congregational life that need to be accomplished today. While it appreciates its relationship with other congregations or its denomination, it may be a bit nonconformist.
The INFJ congregation is centered in its Harmonizing Spirituality which are oriented toward values that give meaning to who it is. Spirituality is marked by believing in and having a personal relationship with the creator. The journey is one of acknowledging that God is in control, calling us into relationship with others. The Harmonizing posture fosters mutuality and spirituality guide the congregational actions, which affirm the importance of life together and are lived out in addressing human needs and concerns. This congregation values its authenticity and autonomy while sensing its connectedness to others. Its Harmonizing Spirituality marks the congregation with an inquisitive openness and acceptance. It values flexibility, creativity, and ideas. The orientation of the INFJ value system is toward acceptance, inclusivity, and openness. Diversity is celebrated. New members are held in equal esteem to founding members. The INFJ focuses on the relational importance of being together for work, worship, or enjoyment: “who we are together.”
DECISION MAKING
The INFJ congregation will approach a problem solving situation by primarily exploring the possibilities and options within and around the concern. As the heart of any concern for the INFJ is people, decisions will be situational rather than consistent. If the decision is not made too quickly, the congregation will support the exploration of these options by expressing concern for who, including itself, will be affected by the decision or action and in what ways. Its solution will tend to be open-ended. The INFJ congregation may not take into consideration existing policies and procedures, and this will lead to situational ethics. Details, objects of experience or facts are considered least of all as the decision is reached, and therefore the practical essentials for implementing the decision may never get discussed or confirmed.
